Tenderoni ?

Oh man i stumbled apon a myspace video of a song called Tenderoni it was so ridiculous i thought it was a joke i have nine year old memories of the Bobby Brown song it confused me then and it still does now i had to wikipeda the term because i needed to find out the origins of this word

Tenderoni is an urban neologism which refers to a loved one. It’s composed of “tender”, which is pretty self explanatory, and the enigmatic, italian-sounding suffix “roni”, which probably serves as an affectionate diminutive. So basically it denotes your sweetheart, your better half, your boyfriend or girlfriend, and is an alternative word for boo, sweetie, pumpkin, honey, dumpling, shmoopy, hun, dear, darling… you get the point. For the ‘07, Chromeo is making an effort to reinstate “tenderoni” into the loverboy vernacular.

Disagreement exists on exactly how common use of the word was in late 80s and early 90s. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that it was an integral part of the North America urban sociolect. The belief is common that “tenderoni” is a hapax legomenon, ie a word that only occurs once, because of Bobby Brown’s successful 1988 hit “Roni”, which is built around the diminutive. The term has surfaced in other pieces of music as well.
